Vulkan Runtime Libraries are you can say newer version of OpenGL and successor to OpenGL. Basically, Vulkan Runtime Libraries is used for developing and improving performance of Vulkan applications and Intel HD graphics. It is currently used on windows and Linux platforms. So, Vulkan parent company is LunarG that supports and helps Intel for drivers and for making Vulkan-compatible runtime and driver to run smoothly and it is made for graphics optimization. But final driver is made by Intel including Vulkan runtime libraries inside it.
Why use vulkan?
Because it is cross platform, gives high performance in 3D applications, balanced load on CPU and GPU, Uses multi CPU cores for load distribution.
Sometimes if you have noticed that you already have installed one of those libraries inside in your pc. That means it is came from Intel driver installation or came from graphics programs or games. So, it is just a driver that optimizes game play and graphics performance with Intel HD graphics.
How to download Vulkan Runtime Libraries?
If you want to download Vulkan SDK than you can download it from here: https://vulkan.lunarg.com/.
There are windows, Linux, Mac and android versions are available for download. There are two types of downloads are available for each operating systems. SDK is for app development and Runtime for optimizations in applications.
1. Go to https://vulkan.lunarg.com.
2. Click on windows.
3. To download SDK, click on latest SDK.
4. To download Runtime, click on latest Runtime.
So the Vulkan is better than OpenGL because it offers more control to CPU and GPU, lower CPU usage than OpenGL, and also supports on high end graphics card that used High CPU loads so it distributes equal load on CPU cores. It is also using less resource than the OpenGL. So in real world application use, it is far better than the previous version and gives very good performance for Vulkan applications. Currently, Less used by NVIDIA and more used by AMD and Intel.
